Welcome to Finned Friends

Finned Friends exists for one simple reason: keeping fish should be calm and rewarding, not confusing.

If you’ve ever stood in front of a new aquarium wondering why your betta won’t eat, whether your tank is “cycled,” or how often you’re supposed to feed — you’re exactly who we write for. Most aquarium advice online is scattered across forums, buried in jargon, or flatly contradictory. We turn it into clear, step-by-step guides anyone can follow.

What we cover

We focus on the topics beginners and improving hobbyists actually search for:

  • Betta fish care — setup, feeding, behavior, and common problems
  • Aquarium setup — choosing a tank, filters, heaters, and getting started right
  • Water chemistry — the nitrogen cycle, ammonia, and keeping water safe
  • Fish health & behavior — what’s normal, what’s not, and what to do
  • Species care guides — practical, plain-English profiles

How we work

Every guide on Finned Friends is researched against reputable aquarium and veterinary sources, written in plain English, and kept up to date. We tell you the why behind each recommendation, use diagrams to make things click, and — importantly — we’re honest about our limits. When a fish is sick or something is beyond home care, we’ll always tell you to see a qualified aquatic vet rather than guess.

We don’t do hype, miracle cures, or filler. Just clear, careful answers to the questions fishkeepers are actually asking.

Who’s behind it

Finned Friends is edited by Maya Rivers, a lifelong aquarium enthusiast who got tired of how hard it was to find straight answers about keeping fish healthy. You can read more about our editorial approach on our Editorial Standards page.

Have a question, correction, or suggestion? We’d genuinely like to hear it — reach us any time on our Contact page.

Happy fishkeeping, The Finned Friends team 🐠
