Our promise
Finned Friends publishes guides that fishkeepers can actually trust. Here’s how we work to earn that trust.
How we create our content
- Research first. Every guide is built by reviewing reputable aquarium resources, care references, and veterinary-informed sources — not by copying whatever ranks first.
- Plain English. We translate hobby jargon into clear, step-by-step instructions, with diagrams where they help.
- We cite and we qualify. Where a claim matters, we point to the reasoning behind it, and we’re upfront when something depends on your specific tank, fish, or situation.
- We defer to vets. For anything involving a sick or injured fish, we direct readers to a qualified aquatic veterinarian. We don’t diagnose.
- We keep guides current. Articles show a published and “last updated” date, and we revisit them as best practices evolve.
- Corrections welcome. Found a mistake? Tell us and we’ll fix it. Accuracy matters more to us than being right.
About the editor
Maya Rivers is the editor behind Finned Friends and a lifelong aquarium hobbyist. After years of watching new fishkeepers get overwhelmed by conflicting advice, Maya started Finned Friends to be the clear, reassuring resource she wished she’d had when setting up her first tank. Maya is an enthusiast and researcher — not a veterinarian — and Finned Friends always recommends professional care for medical concerns.
