How the plan works

The whole of betta feeding fits in one line: 2–3 pellets, once or twice a day, with one fasting day a week. A good portion is no bigger than your betta’s eye — bettas beg constantly, but a begging betta isn’t a hungry one, and overfeeding is the most common betta-care mistake. This calculator just turns that rule into a schedule you can follow.

Growing fry are the exception: they need more frequent, smaller feedings of tiny protein-rich foods (baby brine shrimp, microworms) and no fasting day while they’re still developing. Older, less active bettas usually do best on a single small daily meal.

A few things the schedule assumes: soak dry pellets for a minute first (they swell), feed by hand so you can see what goes in, and scoop out anything uneaten after a couple of minutes so it doesn’t foul the water.
